Day 5 - Wednesday 27th May

We had an early pickup today and so we had set the alarm for 5am and checked out from the hotel before 6am so we could go to breakfast at the earliest time at 6am. The APT bus arrived at 7am to pick us up for the 450km trip to Ayres Rock.

The first stop on the journey was about an hour later at a camel farm. None of us took up the option to ride a camel but we did take photos of the camels and llamas.

As we drove towards Ayres Rock, we passed through a series of showers. Along the way, we stopped again at a roadhouse and then at a viewing stop to take photos of Mount Connor which is another outcrop formed at the same time as Ayres Rock and the Olgas. The rain cleared enough just at the right time so we could see Mount Connor.

We reached the Ayres Rock Resort at about 12:30, checked in and had lunch at one of the cafes in the complex ready for our afternoon pickup at 2:15pm.

The first stop was at the cultural centre inside the Uluru national park. Next we walked to a waterhole next to the rock followed by a walk along Mala Walk next to the rock.

The last stop on the tour was the sunset drinks. There was no rain this afternoon but it was still overcast and so we didn’t see the sun let alone sunset. However, we enjoyed the APT wine, cheese and bikkies. We also had the opportunity to chat to other people on the tour who had come from all over Australia plus overseas visitors.

Back at the resort, we went to the supermarket to buy food for breakfast and then had dinner at a nearby bistro.
